Windows 7 first reaction

One week ago I downloaded the beta version of Windows 7 from Microsoft and performed an upgrade on my computer running Vista.  I was skeptical since this thing is beta, I thought "was my computer going to still work, would I be causing myself all kinds of extra work having to re-install everything".  Well after the upgrade I am thrilled, even though it's beta it's solid, full featured and just so cool.  Looking back the last time was this excited about a new operating system was when I went from Windows 98 to Windows 2000.  I thought what a radical change, we have moved into the future and now how will I stay away from my computer.

To download Windows 7 you will have to download the image file and burn it on to a DVD from the following location:  http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

Sounds pretty cool. I'm running Vista on my Mac right now and I'm thinking about trying it out. Do you know if it will work fine on a MacBook Pro?

I would imagine it would work since the MacBook Pro was built to run any operating systems that runs on the intel platform not just Microsoft Windows.

It seems that Vista has a successor. 7's beta is better than Vista RC1. Thank the heavenly host for that. Upgrading to Vista was a very bad recommendation. Goodbye Vista :P

I have the same question as Joel,
I'm running XP on Parallels for my MacBook Pro. I'd like to give Windows 7 a try but I wonder if that's a bad idea because Parallels may not fully support it. Regardless, I'd like to give it a try. If I do I'll report back.

Bill when it comes down to it Windows 7 is Vista with more work put into the GUI. For example the largest improvement is the Wireless and Lan networking controls that really lacked in Vista.

If you were to compare Vista to XP I would say hands down that Vista superceds XP. One example in how Vista was an improvement over XP is security. I have used Vista since it was realeased and I have never had the need for an AV client because of its increased security which the media has given Microsoft grief for:(

Your upgrade was a good choice.

Vista has been out for a while and a lot of the bugs were fixed in SP1. But 7 is a lot more. MS has listened to their base and made a lot of large strides toward their goals. 7 is going to make a lot of people happy; not only Network Admins but the end users as well. The reality of having a smart, snappy, efficient and secure OS alone is enough. Try the beta out and see for yourself. Keep in mind; you only have until the 24th of this month until the 2.5 million cap starts to count. http://news.cnet.com/microsoft-lifts-download-limit-for-windows-7-beta/
